Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra arrived at the Lok Sabha on Thursday to take oath as an MP wearing a traditional Kasavu sari from Kerala. The white sari with golden border was more than a fashion statement – it symbolised her connection to Wayanad, the constituency that sent her to Parliament with a landslide victory.
Carrying a copy of the Constitution, Priyanka took oath wearing a Kasavu sari, a symbol of Kerala’s cultural unity.
Priyanka’s outfit brought back memories of her grandmother Indira Gandhi, who was known for her clothing choices that conveyed symbolic messages. Indira strongly advocated the Swadeshi movement, often wearing Indian block prints and handloom fabrics to promote the country’s textile heritage.
When asked for her thoughts during the ceremony, Priyanka said, “Yes, I missed her [Indira Gandhi], and I missed my father as well.”
